i have 2015 version xcarve…it works fine via easel software …no issues at all running jobs
today i tried to use another cam software to generate gcode and then use USG to send to xcarve
having issues
i created a simple text engrave …it is the word “test” in upper right corner of material
simulation looks fine in featurecam see photo
simulation looks fine in USG see photo
xcarve real toolpath run is not right see photo of my drawing the orange indicates cutter toolpath
very odd…im not a gcode guy but i cant see where in the gcode file that it would machine the straight line on left side…the first letter “t” is just messed up…rest of word machines fine “est”
Did you check for and remove any gcodes not recognized by GRBL? Things Like G64, etc. I use Cambam and they throw some things in that will cause it to mess up.
Not true. UGS only sends Gcode - it’s up to the post-processor in your CAM application to generate appropriate (readable) Gcode for your particular machine.
It could be worth the time to go to the GRBL website and see which gcodes will work and that means the others won’t, causing problems in UGS. Here is a link:
I solely use the UGS with my X carve. I use Cambam or Meshcam for Gcode generation. Try downloading CAMbam and convert your DXF in that. Cambam works, but as I said, you just have to remove a few codes that GRBL doesn’t recognize. G and M codes have been used since punched tape driven cnc machines, so today’s machines adapt to those codes, not the other way around. You may not find a post processor for X carve but if you pick a standard old school one, it should work. They have one called " default". I think I selected the Maxnc one, because I used that in the past on a homebuilt cnc router.
I think, at worst, you’d just have to modify the gcode (delete a line or something) if there is no compatible post processor or the post processor can’t be edited.
I agree with the above. Copy the text into notepad and under Edit and Find, insert the letter G and see what comes up. Look for Gcodes that aren’t recognized by Grbl. You’ll have to do this no matter which post processor you select.
i appreciate the help but im looking for a post processor for featurecam that will work with xcarve…now that i know the reason why the xcarve did not follow toolpath as shown in UGS
since there is no post processor i will not use featurecam…i have contacted autodesk to see if they can create a post processor or recommend a post processor that may be more compatible from their list
today i messed with vectric aspire 8.5 and it seems to communicate very well with UGS and xcarve…i ran a few test jobs and all turned out well on xcarve…
i found the xcarve post processor for vectric aspire online …and aspire also has some single line text fonts which is awesome …makes engraving text much easier and faster…and is able to do tiny text…
thanks for the help…now at least i know why i was having issues
i have artcam pro and vectric aspire pro .software …so i believe between those two programs along with easel , i should be able to do a lot and shouldnt need any other software…i hope
