What did you use to make your dust boot brush?

Hi - I’m making a dust boot for my machine, you can see my first design here that I’m just working on upgrading now:

I decided to change everything to wood and hook on to the carriage plates rather than the router spindle itself. Anyway, that’s beside the point.

I made my brush my cutting the bristles off of a paint brush and sticking them on a piece of electrical tape that I layered and then glued up. The result is OK, but I’m just wondering if there’s a better / less messy method of making this?

Or if there’s something suitable in Home Depot?

Also, does anyone have any experience with making MDF slides? Do they actually slide well?

Thanks!

I bought mine from McMasterCarr.

OK I just ordered one, thanks! I would have preferred to make it but my next scheme involved hot glue, a routed channel as a mold, and some sacrificial paint brushes - it just seems like a lot of hassle.

If you can source premade brush strips, do it. I made my first with a paint brush and hot glue to make strips of the bristles… lots of work, lots of mess and subpar functionality. It worked for quite a while, but I am glad that I switched over to a manufactured brush strip.
