Troubleshooting connectivity

Hi guys,

I need some advice RE: UCGS. When I connect the machine (Arduino and shield) to my computer (MacbookPro 2013 8gb RAM) it registers in UGCS and I get the GRBL setings up with $ etc, but when I go to jog the machine with the onscreen keys, sometimes I will get a dialogue box that says “device not configured in writebyte”? I have had a quick search online but have not had any luck. The stepper motors buzz with life and you can hear a lowering of the buzz that corresponds with the clicking of the onscreen keys, but no movement. I have tried easel, however sometimes the machine will disconnect on its own. When I can get the steppers moving through easel, they only move in one direction regardless of the key pressed.

Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

What happens if you use a separate power supply (9V battery for instance) for the Arduino?
The USB port might not give the proper amount of juice.

I assume the shield have a proper power supply as well? (12-36VDC)

Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a try. The shield has a 24VDC power supply.

Yep, have gone through all the available step distances

The version I am using is 1.0.6
