Stepper motors lost their "lock"

When I first built my X-Carve, when powered up, the steppers would not move when I tried to move them manually. Lately I noticed that the steppers can be pushed quite easily even when powered on. Also (as stated in another post) having resolution problems, could this be part of it? If so, why is this happening?

For the record, I have tried the Lock/unlock motors button, makes no difference.

You can raise your stepper powers from the pods on GShield. There are 3 pods, XYZ, just a little turn. Let say if it is 12 O"clock, make it 1 O"clock. Too much gives thermal shutdown.
