There are several options that you can use.
For CAM (to produce G-code files), a few of them are V-carve Pro/Desktop, Fusion 360, Meshcam, and others.
For sending the G-code to the X-carve there is Universal G-code Sender, Chilipepper and others.
I am using Windows 8 works great

Shapeoko CNC Router, Rigid, Accurate, Reliable, and Affordable — everything will work save for Carbide Create/Motion and the Mac OS X stuff
