I was doing a 45 minute engraving in pine wood today. Started everything up, watched it for about ten minutes and walked away to mow the grass. Came back inside to find that the engraving was off and the laser being crooked from a melted mount. It didn’t totally melt but enough to knock it out of alignment. After further review I noticed that the fan on top of the laser wasn’t turning. I fiddled around with it for awhile and noticed that the fan only turns briefly during the initial movement towards the first engrave point and then again when it returns home. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

can’t help you with your problem though 
Is it possible that power to the fan cuts out when the machine moves away from home? Perhaps the wiring is just barely loose, so it dislodges when the machine moves away and makes contact again when it moves back home. I can’t think of any other explanation for the behaviour.
The fan that came with my 2.8w laser had a short in the wiring at the fan solder joint. This would short out my driver and cause my laser to be on all the time with not control and the fan was also not working. I contacted Jtech and they sent me a new fan. I suspect that you may have a bad solder joint as well or a shorted fan.
