How tight is too tight on the belts

How tight should the belts be set. I just finished assembling the mach and I notice that when I try to run it that it makes a rubbing noise, like the motors are catching on the rail

Use a fish or luggage scale, center of the belt, 1 inch deflection, no more than ~4lbs. Assuming 1000mm.

Also, check the idlers and pulleys, make sure the belt is centered and not rubbing either edge.

would the belts being to tight cause a skipping

or would the v wheels be too tight

Yeah, typo, I meant to say 5lbs.
