Odd question, I know, but I have been interested in this. I seems like there is a great opportunity being missed, but I’m not exactly sure how you could utilize it directly, given the z travel, but there must be something I’m not thinking of.
there is actually a few videos on youtube about pumpkin carving with a cnc machine
the problem with the x-carve is its only a 3-axis machine which means you would have to mill down a flat plane on the pumpkin before you could really start
also z-height is another problem but you could take the waste board off and gain some there
the last issue is the tools and toolpaths you would create for carving organic materials do not machine the greatest they are hard to put detail into
