It’s not finished yet but this is my first attempt at making a 3D grayscale relief.
Still needs refinement. I loaded it up in artcam didn’t look too bad but needs work.
Are you going to use Easel to cut that?
Yeah, don’t see that happening.
I use Artcam for my 3D and v carving. I am trying to learn how to make 3D grayscale because I can not justify paying $125 for a 3d file.
Are you Air Force Shane? Yeah, I can’t bring myself to pay that much $$ for a file either. I’ve been trying to find 3d files for military stuff for free or on the cheap, but haven’t had any success.
Navy here- have the same challenges. Obviously the creation of the files becomes tedius…so I suspect that is why they want $$ for them. Keep at it. We are rooting for you!
I know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but did you think about doing it as a V-Carve? I know there are .SVGs available that you could likely clean up.

I never got a chance to get into the military I got shot 2 days after graduating high school. Due to the location of the bullet it can not be removed and they said they could not accept me as long as the bullet remained. I am making this for a coworker his son is coming home in a few weeks.
If they turn out i will be selling the rights to use the images for $25. I believe that is a very fair price for my time. also i have a reason they have to be in 3D here is one i have posted before that i did. This was done from a file i found on google images.
So far i have 3 hours in this image i will have countless more tied up in cutting them to test the image. so hope all goes well.
Here is one also…but this is a subscription site.
Have you checked www.vectorart3d.com
they already have this for a reasonable $25. They also have the other armed forces.
Beautiful work there Greg!!!
Thanks Dave!
I like your work, were they done on the x carve?
Thanks John, No I have a home made CNC. I use V-carve Pro software.
Those really turned out nice! I am mainly teaching my self how to make reliefs and building a library of relief images that could be combined to make other images. Just saves me money later down the road and it is something i enjoy simple shapes only take a few minutes to make and i really have nothing better to do while the machine is running.
That’s great! if you have the ability to do it., do it. I wish I did. I thought you were doing it because they were too expensive otherwise. What software do you use to create the reliefs? I can’t do it with the software I have, and the upgrade is a little too rich for me right now.
