First attempt at half-toning

Hey, @MickZebra, I used HalfToner V1.6 by @JasonDorie ( thanks :smiley: ).

The material is MDF that was sprayed with 2 coats of black spray-paint.

If you haven’t used HalfToner before it is very simple:

NOTE: You need a v-bit, I used a 90* Freud 1/4" bit.

NOTE 2: Download and extract halftoner V1.6 (or whichever you’d like) to an accessible location

TIP: Before you save the code, make sure the millimeter (Units) is selected.
Not sure if it is just me, but I was having issues with the values not converting from inches correctly.

  1. Download and drag picture over to the halftone work area
  2. Press preview to show the dot layout
  3. Go through settings to get the dot pattern, separation, and size that you desire ( I found it is trial and error)
  4. Once you are happy with the look, under the toolpath tab, select Write GCode
  5. Save the file wherever you’d like, but somewhere accessable
  6. Use a G-code sender such as UniversalGcodeSender
  7. Send the carve and let it do its thing!

If you haven’t used UniversalGcodeSender:

NOTE: when you download the zip file, make sure you start with the (Start- or Start Windows) depending on your OS
NOTE 2: When connecting select your port and set baud to 115200 and open
TIP: Make sure when you zero your machine to your work, you reset X,Y,Z in the machine control tab.

  1. Connect
  2. Go to the file mode tab and select the browse option
  3. Select the text file that was created with Halftoner
  4. Select send and let the machine go!

These carves take a substantial amount of time to carve, however, you can speed things up when you get more comfortable with how everything works.
