End Mills and cutting tools

While I am waiting on my X-Carve (with new spindle) I have been looking for and buying a few new end mills, collets etc.

I found what appeared to be a good price for a v bit on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Groove-Router-CNC-Engraving-V-Bit-6mm-x-22mm-x-60-Degree-/360849806885?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5404531625) so I bought a 60 and 90 degree

I also bought a 1/4 inch and a 6mm collet on ebay (6mm Super Precision Er11 Collet CNC Chuck Mill for sale online | eBay)

The price seemed very low but I am hopping they will work,

If anyone has some advice on the tools they are using and where they get them I would appreciate it.

I’ve bought a lot of bits from drillman1 on ebay - all 1/8" endmills, etc., so far. MLCS is my source for V bits and other larger bits.

The link you showed ships from Hong Kong and takes a while to get to the US.

It does take a while to receive, The first order took about 4 weeks. But when I priced local vbits waiting a few weeks seemed OK. Especially since I was already waiting on the X-Carve.

I am hoping the 24V DC spindle will have enough power for the 1/4 inch end mills.

I have the 300W quiet cut spindle and have had no problem using bits with 1/4" shank for both straight cuts and V-carving.

If that’s the spindle you have, it can operate on 48V, which is how I configured my S2.

Just to be clear, the default spindle on the X-Carve is 24V (so that it can run on a single power supply with the steppers).

They arrived in good shape and I’m happy with the price I paid.

Thanks David, That is a good deal. How do you organize your collets so you know which size is which.

I haven’t actually used them yet Allen :slight_smile: They come supplied in marked individual plastic containers so its easy enough to tell them apart right now.

When I get my machine I will mill holder for them and engrave the collet sizes into the wood I think

I was planning to make a tool holder also, Should be an easy Easel project,

I was surprised that the collets do not have their sizes etched onto them.

Thanks for the heads-up on drillman1, that looks like a darn good source! Lot cheaper than McMaster, too.

Anyone willing to post their experiences with some of these bits?
I just found a 1" dia. Lettering Bit on Freudtools web site and was thinking of picking one up.
