Just bought a 65mm 1.5kW spindle to upgrade my machine.
Is 0.001" (0.0254mm) an acceptable runout? (Advertised as 0.0005mm runout )
What do you get?
Measured inside hollow collect taper.

First of all, that’s a hilarious advertised runout. Leave it to Chinese ebay salesmen. I think 0.001" is fine for what most x carvers do. Sounds like a great upgrade Ruwan.
Thanks @NathanButler!
I’m much more interested in what the runout is at the tip of a bit, though. I’d be concerned that that 0.001" would turn into 0.005 or 0.01 at the end of a 1" end mill. And that could be a problem.
Yeah, I thought about that, the problem is I’m not sure how to test that.
A drilling/milling bits I have are not that long. do you have any suggestions?
Just stick a bit of known cutting diameter in and cut a line .025" deep. Measure the line, subtract the bit diameter, and you’ve got your runout.
