Easel sets toolpath to cut through when it shouldn't

you can see this file made of several SVGs, the gray shape is covering some full-depth cuts but it looks like the 3d preview says it’s going to cut the shapes that are below the top shapes covering it.

in this second image I put a random box to cover up a full-depth cut but it looks like easel wants to cut all the way through anyway

I haven’t used this software in a few months so was there a change to make it happen this way? how to I “cancel out” a full depth cut so I can use a combination of shapes to make my part?

ok, thanks Phil

that’s a good idea! instead I got some more illustrator practice and pieced out the shapes, overall its easier to manage like you said.
