I am new to X-Carve and have inherited an older machine with the original router. I have already upgraded to the X-Controller but am wonder what I might have to gain by upgrading to a DeWalt 611 router.

much more powerful spindle. Ability for higher feed rates and different materials. I would recommend the Makita RT0701C over the Dewalt DW611, though. Much broader RPM spectrum and quieter.

Dewalt or Makita, another benefit is the RPM governor on both. Keeping the RPM constant regardless of load = better cut consistency. RF-wise they are probably less noisy too.
good point, the original spindles would bog down.
