Box with lid?

I’m finding it impossible to design a simple box with a fitted lid. It seems to be impossible in Easel. I just want the lid to simply fit into a recess in the body or the other way around.

Have you checked the project lists. I think there is a few of them there and maybe you can just change the size for your needs.

The great community at Inventables has produced many designs. Here are but a few. You may be able to find one close enough for your needs, or you might be able to modify one of these designs to work for you.

Of course the Inventables box generator app will create boxes with finger joints and an optional slide top lid. This does have the downside of dog bones on the joints.

Another option would be to use my slide top rabbet box customizer on Thingiverse.

The downside of this is that it will create a .STL file for 3D printing and if you want to make it with your CNC you will need to pass it through more software. Personally, I use Vectric VCarve Desktop.

Remember that the customizer creates boxes based on the outside dimensions of the desired box. If you have something that is to fit on the inside, you will need to account for material thickness.

Note that with a basic fixture you can present boards to the machine standing on end and cut finger joints which don’t need dog bones and have no voids.

I do that with a hole in the back right of wasteboard and a clamping fixture underneath.
