This is cut from maple and I am torn between just shellac and then glaze or dye/painting the flamingo to add some color. Thoughts?

Actually it’s for a friend’s wife who is in her 30’s (I don’t know her exact age) who LOVES flamingos and likes all things “pirate” so… Yeah… But anyway I was thinking about the epoxy fill idea as well, but definitely so far seems color vs natural is winning out.
